mom’s flat apple pie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crushed vanilla wafers (or graham crackers, about 20 wafers)
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ tbsp grated orange zest (from 1-2 oranges)
  • 3 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange liqueur or orange blossom water (optional for extra flavor)
  • Extra powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine crushed vanilla wafers, chopped nuts, powdered sugar, and grated orange zest. Mix well.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the fresh orange juice and optional orange liqueur (or orange blossom water) to the mixture. Stir until everything is well combined and can form a dough. If the mixture is too dry, add a bit more orange juice.
  3. Form Balls: Using your hands, scoop a small amount of the mixture and roll it into 1-inch balls.
  4. Coat in Sugar: Roll each ball in the extra powdered sugar until fully coated.
  5. Chill and Serve: Place the orange blossom balls on a tray or plate and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to help them firm up. Serve and enjoy!
