Ingredients:
1½ lbs flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp cornstarch
½ cup beef broth
1 tsp sugar
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking)
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Cooked white rice (for serving)
Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Sliced green onions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Marinate the Steak:
In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Toss the sliced steak in the marinade, ensuring each piece is coated. Let it marinate for at least 20 minutes.
Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Cook the Steak:
In the same pan, heat the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the marinated steak in batches, stir-frying for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
Prepare the Sauce:
In the same pan, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Stir in the beef broth, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
Combine and Serve:
Add the cooked steak, onions, and peppers back into the pan. Toss everything together in the sauce, allowing it to coat the ingredients evenly.
Cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and the sauce thickens slightly.
Serve:
Serve the sizzling Chinese pepper steak over a bed of steamed white rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
