Sliced Baked Potatoes

Introduction

Sliced Baked Potatoes are a simple yet impressive side dish that transforms humble potatoes into something flavorful and visually appealing. By slicing them thinly before baking, you get tender, buttery insides with crispy, golden edges. They’re versatile enough to pair with roasted meats, chicken, or fish, yet easy enough for everyday meals.

Ingredients

4 medium russet or Yukon gold potatoes

3 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp paprika (optional, for color and flavor)

2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

1 tbsp fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, or thyme, chopped)

Instructions

Preheat oven: Set oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare potatoes: Scrub and dry potatoes. Slice thinly (about ¼ inch thick) without cutting all the way through—leave the bottom intact so the slices fan out (like Hasselback potatoes).

Seasoning mix: In a small bowl, combine olive oil (or butter), garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.

Brush potatoes: Place potatoes on baking sheet. Gently fan out slices and brush seasoning mixture between and over the slices.

Bake: Bake 50–60 minutes, basting with pan juices halfway through, until potatoes are tender inside and crispy on the edges.

Finish: Sprinkle Parmesan and fresh herbs over the potatoes during the last 5 minutes of baking.

Serve: Serve hot as a side dish.

Description

These Sliced Baked Potatoes are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. The thin slices fan out beautifully, making them both delicious and eye-catching on the table. Garlic, herbs, and Parmesan add layers of taste that elevate this classic potato side.

Tips and Variations

Cheesy version: Add shredded cheddar or mozzarella in the last 10 minutes of baking.

Bacon lovers: Sprinkle cooked, crumbled bacon over the potatoes before serving.

Loaded style: Top with sour cream, chives, and cheese for a “loaded baked potato” twist.

Spicy kick: Add cayenne pepper or chili powder to the seasoning mix.

Crispier edges: Brush with melted butter halfway through baking for extra crispness.

Shortcut: Use an apple slicer or wooden spoon trick (place potato on spoon and cut) to prevent slicing all the way through.

Correction

Some recipes bake potatoes at too low a temperature, which makes them soft but not crisp. Baking at 400°F (200°C) ensures the perfect balance of a tender center and golden, crispy edges.

Enjoy

Serve Sliced Baked Potatoes alongside steak, roasted chicken, or even as a snack with dipping sauces. They’re easy, versatile, and guaranteed to impress both in flavor and presentation.
